Boudoir Photography After Motherhood: My Journey to Confidence and Self-Love

My Why:

My world is changing rapidly. My only child just graduated high school and is moving 730 miles away to go to college. As she is forging her own path and finding out who she wants to be in this world, I am realizing my sole identity for the past 18 years has been her mom. Most everything I did revolved around her. I’m not sure I even know how to be anything other than “mom”. Now that she is starting her new chapter, it’s time for me to move into my next chapter.

I had thought about booking a boudoir session for years. But each time it crossed my mind I always had an excuse to not do it. I was too busy, it was too expensive, I need to lose weight, I am not pretty enough, no one wants to see sexy photos of me, I don’t want anyone to see sexy photos of me, what would other people say if they saw them? All excuses that I made up to avoid booking a session. I just so happened to came across a Petal and Pose post on Facebook one day and decided to pull up the website. I saw real women of all ages with real bodies and true confidence. Everything I saw on the website was all about building confidence, supporting each other, empowering women to love who they are, just as they are now and was completely judgment free. I decided to throw away my inhibitions and book a session.

Right from my first call with Melissa, I knew I made the right choice. Melissa was so down to earth and so reassuring. She sent me all kinds of information and even provided a payment plan option. She makes it possible for everyone to have an amazing experience. The day of the shoot I was excited and nervous. But just like she was on the phone, Melissa was so down to earth, she made it easy to be comfortable and have fun. It also helped that right when I walked into the studio I was greeted by resident studio kitty, Ember! As a pet lover, Ember added an additional sense of calm.

As someone who is not the most comfortable in my own skin, Melissa made sure the process was easy and fun. She made sure I was comfortable with everything and made sure every shot was perfect. Ember even decided she wanted to become part of a shot! ❤ Melissa showed me the photos that same day and I was blown away. I couldn’t believe it was me in those photos. Melissa is able to see something within us that we cannot see ourselves, and she has a way of pulling it out and putting it on display in absolutely stunning ways.

I highly recommend booking a session. Throw all the excuses out the window and take the next step in finding who you are or who you want to be. Take the time for yourself, Melissa helps make it affordable, your body is perfect exactly as it is, you are beautiful, you are sexy, who cares what other people will think, and haters are just jealous they aren’t as badass as you.
