Today's Tattooed Muse shares her reasons
Q: What would you want your daughter, niece, or a younger woman in your life to know about her body and how she deserves to feel in it?
If the people in this world ever try to convince you that you need to shrink, soften, or alter yourself to be worthy, remember that you owe no one aesthetic comfort.Your body belongs to you! Guard its peace, protect its energy, and treat it with the fierce, unyielding respect you would offer to your dearest friend. You are far too interesting, capable, beautiful and alive to spend your life at war with yourself.
Q: Most women are tough in ways nobody claps for. What's something hard you've carried that not many people know about?
The weight of keeping everything thing together when grieving..The world expects life to keep moving, dinner still needs to be made, work still needs to get done, family still needs support—even when your heart is completely shattered.
Q: What do you want to feel when you look at a photograph of yourself?
I want to look at myself and feel a quiet, unshakeable strength. I want to feel beautiful and deeply seen, to laugh without holding back, and to finally be completely comfortable and at peace in my own skin.
Q: Your tattoos say something about who you are. Does the rest of your life feel like it matches? Why or why not?
Tattoos are my way of saying, "This is who I am." But so much of my daily life requires me to be what everyone else needs me to be- a mom, wife, a provider, a caretaker, a problem solver rather than just being seen as myself. My ink isn't really matching my life, It’s those moments where you pause, catch your breath, look at where you're standing, and remember: I put these here because this is who I am at my core, no matter how heavy the rest of the world gets. Each one means something to Me.
