Can Boudoir Photography Help You Love Your Body After Breast Cancer? One Survivor’s Story at 50

Miss A shares her story in her own words.... thank you for sharing Miss A!

Q: Your ink has a story. What's one piece that still hits different when you look at it, and what does it mean to you now?

My chest piece is the most meaningful to me. I had breast cancer when I was 16! I kicked it's ass and now I'm 50 and cancer-free. The tattoo I got covers up the scars from all the reconstruction surgery I had done. It's a corset with wings. I also have a breast cancer ribbon butterfly that says survivor on my foot. They are there to always remind me how strong I am.

Q. You've probably gotten a reaction or two for your tattoos, maybe from a stranger, a family member, or a coworker. What's the one that stuck with you?

I get a lot of compliments on my mandala piece on my forearm. Even though it's not my favorite since there are a lot of mistakes in the work. People always ask me if I'm gonna color it in. I tell them only with temporary markers

Q: Is there a piece of your body you've made peace with? Or one you're still working on.

I've made peace with my breasts. After losing one to breast cancer, I was very self-conscious and couldn't wear a lot of the clothes I wanted. I even had men tease me. Hence, I went through a very extensive surgery to reconstruct the breast. I had the best plastic surgeon. You can barely tell that anything was ever wrong. Now for my natural curly hair?.. I will never come to terms with that. I hate it.
